What is wrong with my nose profile? I'm 13 and really insecure about just my nose. (photos)

Hello latiere,Thanks for your question.Yes, your face is still growing for up to 2 years more.If you have a severe overbite, it may be necessary for your parents to take you to an Orthodontist to see if braces are necessary.  In some cases, you may need to meet with an Oral-Maxillofacial surgeon for jaw surgery to reposition your maxilla and mandible.If your chin is too small, an easy option is silicone chin implant surgery.  This can make a nice change, especially if you choose not to have jaw surgery.As far as your nose is concerned, you have a bit of a dorsal hump that can be reduced to create a straighter nose on profile.  If you are bothered by your nose, I would recommend that you and your parents visit with a rhinoplasty specialist to learn about your options.Be careful, though, because rhinoplasty surgery is permanent.  What you think you like at this young age may change when you get older.Good luck,Dr. Shah

Your nasal profile does create the appearance of a large hump, however that is not entirely the case.  I would refer to the abnormality of your nasal dorsum as a relative hump.  This would mean that the appearance of the bump on your nose is made worse by the fact that your radix, the area between the eyes, is relatively low and the tip of your nose is relatively under projected or low also.  These 2 abnormalities contributed to the abnormal appearance of the nasal dorsum.  If you decide to proceed with correction of the hump you should have only modest removal of the bone and cartilage contributing to the bump and the area between the eyes shouldn't be raised while the tip should be pushed slightly more forward.  This will create a natural aesthetically pleasing dorsal nasal profile avoiding a surgical appearance.  No surgical intervention should be contemplated until you are no longer growing.  This occurs usually around 14-16 years of age and females and 16-18 years of age males
