I had Kybella three weeks ago and I'm finally seeing some of the swelling going down - that said, my right mandibular lymph node is incredibly swollen, seemingly out of no where. After visiting my primary care physician, she ruled out the big hitters - strep and such. My question is, could my lymph be swollen because it's metabolizing/draining the fat cells from the procedure?
Answer: Lymph node Dear britt1017,I understand your concern. However, without a proper assessment it would be difficult to determine what is wrong. It is best that you visit your plastic surgeon for further assessment. Only after thorough examination you can get proper recommendations and advice.Kybella typically takes 3 to 5 treatments to work. This is why I've stopped carrying Kybella in my office. I recommend neck liposuction more often then any injectable procedure for the neck now. It provides superior results gives me more control over the area than any injectable. It also costs about the same as what you paid for your first kybella session. The liposuction can be done under local while awake in the office and recovery is about the same as kybella.Daniel Barrett, MD Certified, American Board of Plastic Surgery Member, American Society of Plastic Surgery Member, American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery

Answer: Lymph node swelling post Kybella. Could it be the cause? Your lymph nodes do not swell because of treatment effects of Kybella. You need to revisit your Dr and try to find the cause of your lymphadenopathy.

Answer: Kybella Hello. Thank you for the question. I think it was a very good idea to see your primary care to rule out any serious causes. I have absolutely seen some referred swelling after a Kybella treatment. I would give it another week then go back to your injector to have her evaluate the area.

Answer: Swelling after Kybella Thank you for your question. Kybella definitely can be associated with swelling and nodules. That being said, lymphadenopahy is not usual. I would recommend waiting a bit longer to give the swelling and inflammation time to heal. I would see your physician for an in office exam. It will likely resolve on its own with time.

Answer: Lymphadenopathy after treatment with Kybella Kybella should not cause lymphadenopathy. The treatment and self can cause significant swelling it including firm nodules. If you have ruled out that you do not have any other medical illnesses I suggest you simply wait it out and this will most likely resolve on its own. Personally I'm not a big fan of Kybella and find liposuction to be much more effective, predictable and an overall better option for most patients. Just my opinion. Best, Mats Hagstrom M.D.
