Will acid reflux impact healing from breast augmentation/cause issues?

Question

I have pretty severe acid reflux which often causes chest pain (I am working with GI's to manage this)...but my question is whether it would be safe/ OK to get a breast augmentation given my chronic reflux? Not sure if the reflux could poorly impact healing or irritate the implant/ capsule. Would really like to get the surgery but nervous if it could make chest pain worse or if the reflux could cause too much irritation when healing.

Hi, thank you for sharing your question. Acid reflux will not impact your surgery. If your medical doctor clears you for surgery, you are safe to proceed.

Breast augmentation does not have any relation with Acid reflux; My recommendation is talking with your gastroenterologist and plastic surgeon rehará the medication you will need on your post op since this is a factor that can affect your reflux. Good luck!

I recommend an in person consultation with a plastic surgeon to discuss your goals and be measured. After I measure and discuss goals with my patients, we then look at pictures of women (my patients) with similar measurements with different size and style breast implants, and they choose what looks right for them. They also get to see what they would look like when the breasts have fully dropped and fluffed and in clothes. You get to see actual results and the surgeon's experience and not a virtual idea of what can be achieved. Acid reflux will not negatively impact your implants or the results of surgery.  Be sure to discuss any medications that you take with your surgeon and GI specialists to help make recovery safe and well managed for you.

No, your acid reflux will not damage your implants in any way, but surgery is stress and stress may increase your issues. Be sure to take your medications for acid reflux. Also, be checked for food allergies for many will present as acid reflux.

Hi and welcome to our forum!
GERD should not impact the procedure itself and won't compromise safety. In most cases, an endotracheal tube is inserted into your trachea to prevent any reflux of gastric acid during the procedure. GERD will not affect healing and will not irritate the implant. However, if your GERD is severe, it may impact your postoperative course. Control your GERD BEFORE the procedure. You should keep your head and upper body elevated when in bed. You should continue antacid therapy as directed by your gastroenterologist. The vast majority of individuals with GERD undergo breast augmentation without any difficulty.
