If you're allergic to latex could you still have a breast implant?

Latex allergy wold not prevent you from having a breast augmentation procedure.  There are methods used in the operating room to avoid all latex products.

Yes, latex allergy has nothing to do with breast implants. Both saline and silicone breast implants have a silicone based shell and not latex. All instruments and plastic tubes used in the operating room are latex free. You need to let your surgeon know about your allergy so he/she will use nitrile and not latex surgical gloves for your surgery. Surgical gloves are the only potential latex exposure in the operating room.

Thanks for your question.  Yes, you can still get breast implants.  Just inform your surgeon and the nursing staff so that latex-free gloves are used in your surgery.  Almost everything else in the OR is latex-free.  Good luck. 

Dear maryjensen, Breast implants contain no latex so they are perfectly safe to use in case of latex allergy.  I have had many patients with latex allergies who have undergone breast augmentation surgery without any problems with either saline or silicone gel implants.
