I understand there are 2 tiers of coverage and I plan to purchase the 2nd tier coverage. My question is, the new capsular contracture coverage that began in Nov 2014 is that only for silicone? I am still trying to decide between silicone & saline (paid for silicone but I like the peace of mind saline provides/no MRI's). Why are saline a 10 yr warranty & silicone lifetime? Is it really a lifetime or is there 'fine print' somewhere? Any pearls of wisdom provided is greatly appreciated!
Answer: Allergan Provides Lifetime Warranties on All Implants, No Strings Attached Allergan really does provide lifetime warranties on all of their saline and silicone implants if they rupture or deflate. They will provide a free replacement implant. They also provide a free replacement implant for the opposite breast which means both implants can be replaced at the same time, if needed. I have found Allergan to be true to their word and a very patient and doctor friendly company. I don't think you have to worry about fine print getting in the way.If you decide on saline implants you can pay the $200 upgrade fee get $2400 in financial assistance for surgical replacement costs if you have a deflation. This coverage lasts for 10 years. Keep in mind that many deflations occur after 10 years so it's hard to know if this is worth the cost. With all present silicone implants they provide a free replacement implant for life, if a rupture occurs. In addition, for ruptures, they provide $3500 in financial assistance for surgical replacement costs for 10 years. The financial assistance is also free for the silicone gel implant ruptures and no upgrade is needed. For silicone implants which develop capsular contracture with visible deformity (Baker Grade III and IV) Allergan will provide a free replacement implant for 10 years. The capsular contracture warranty does not include financial assistance for surgical replacement costs.Overall, I find patients are happier with the silicone implants because they look and feel more like a real breast. With the new cohesive gel implants, replacement is much easier when they do leak and the silicone almost always stays put within the pocket.

Answer: Allergan's new capsular contracture warranty. In November of 2014 Allergan, maker of the Natrelle brand of implants added coverage for capsular contracture with visible deformity to their implants. The coverage allows for a free implant replacement, however, it does not cover surgical fees, facility fees or anesthesia fees. Silicone implants, in general, feel much more like natural breast tissue than saline implants do and there is no difference in safety between the two types.
