Hi! I had tip plasty done with closed technique, no bones altered. I knew there'd be swelling but this is freaking me out a bit. When does the initial swelling normally go away? What can I expect regarding swelling? I understand it varies from person to person, but how does it usually play out? Kind regards

Answer: Tip plasty swelling Thank you for your question and sharing your photographs. Your question does not mention how long ago you had your surgery which makes it more difficult to position the answer. If this is shortly after removal of the tapes or cast, it is slightly more than usual but not necessarily a long-term problem. I suggest that you discuss with your surgeon regarding the technique for massage they would approve of for reduction of the swelling at a faster rate. Steroid injections can also be helpful. In most instances, following closed intervention they are not necessary. Taping the tip at night or even during the day is also helpful. Expect to see significant improvement in the first 6 weeks after surgery.
