Labiaplasty wound dehiscence and now swelling. 3 weeks post-op.

Question

I had a modified wedge labiaplasty 3 weeks ago and about 2 weeks in developed a small wound dehiscence inside the labia minora along one of the suture lines. This seemed to be filling in slowly however that side is now significantly swollen. It's not bleeding and there is no discharge. Could there be an infection or perhaps blood pooling inside? I'm worried the incision will come apart due to the swelling. Is there something I can be doing to reduce the swelling?

Thank you for your questions. Without an in-person exam or at least a picture, it can be very hard to give you specific advice. If there has been an acute change and you are concerned, you should contact your surgeon to be seen. If the swelling is increasing, it could be due to an underlying problem or could be simply due to increased activity and irritation of the healing area. Only your doctor can make that assessment and instruct you properly.Best of luck!

Congratulations on your surgery. I would contact your surgeon for their recommendations. Small areas of dehiscence after a surgery typically heal well with local wound care. Only an in person examination can determine whether there is any sign of a fluid collection or infection.

You paid your surgeon to do your labiaplasty AND manage the healing. Call your surgeon and go get your money's worth. There is nothing that can be determined from words lacking a photo and an exam.

Hello, "Glam..."I suggest that you see your surgeon. Without any evaluation, even good photos, it is impossible to give you a meaningful answer. At this point there should not be fresh swelling. should always be addressed with your surgeon.  But not knowing specifics or having a photo to view, at this point, any wound issues simply have to be tolerated and the course of healing allowed to continue.  You will heal.  When you are healed, you should be able to critique your results with your surgeon and pursue revisions if beneficial to your final results.  If you're having progressive pain and swelling, you need to SEE your surgeon.
