In 3 days, I'm having a tummy tuck (no muscle work, only loose skin removal) and BBL. I'm 5'2" and 120lbs. My doc said he doesn't use or recommend faja or compression on the buttocks after bbl, it will only be around my waist for the tummy tuck. He's a well regarded surgeon, but I'm seeing so much about the NEED for fajas for WEEKS after surgery....is he going rogue and should I just get one and wear it?
Answer: Listen to your surgeon! If you chose your surgeon because you trust them, then you must follow their protocol in order to get the results you want. I also prohibit my patients from using fajas, the only people that say they are NEEDED are the people who make them and profit off them. I have seen too many great BBLs ruined by bad fajas and bad lymphatic massage. If you don't follow your surgeon's instructions and you are not happy with your result you will be paying big $$ for a revision, so I'd suggest following instructions. Hope that helps!

Answer: My surgeon said he doesn't recommend fajas or any compression on the buttocks after BBL. Should I just get one and wear it? I ask my patients to wear compression garments to help obliterate dead space and reduce the incidence of fluid collections. I always advocate following the protocols recommended by your board certified plastic surgeon as he is ultimately responsible for your healing and recovery.

Answer: Postoperative protocol Dear Imaginative550972, I understand your concern. It is best that you consult your plastic surgeon regarding post operative care and management (i.e including massage techniques and timing) specific to your case. Your surgeon knows your condition well and has preferences on when and what to use for faster healing and recovery. Post operative care and management depends on the type of surgery performed and the technique used during surgery among other factors. It is best, however, that you follow your plastic surgeon's advice on post operative care management for a smooth and faster healing and recovery. Answer: My surgeon said he doesn't recommend fajas or any compression on the buttocks after BBL. Should I just get one and wear it? Hello dear!! Thanks for the question and provided information as well. Every doctor has their preferences in regards to compression garments. I suggest my patients use a full body compression garment (that closes with clips), 24/7 for the first 3 months, and after that, for 12 hours a day for 3 more months, to get the best results. It is important for the compression garment to be very tight, for it to help with the swelling, after surgery, and to use it with a cotton t-shirt underneath to avoid garment burns. Please, follow up close with your plastic surgeon. Good luck :)

Answer: Compression garment after BBL You should follow your doctor‘s instructions. I don’t think you’re going to get a plastic surgeon to recommend going against your own doctors recommendations. Best, Mats Hagstrom MD
