Best sports bra after breast augmentation and lift?

Question

I had a mastopexy and breast augmentation about 6 weeks ago. I am looking for the best and most supportive sports bra. I work out 5-6 days a week with a combination of elliptical machines, walking, running, spinning, and aerobics. What brand do you suggest would be best? Thank you!

It's a good question. It's best to contact your surgeon with this question, as they most likely have a specific protocol that they follow. Most patients wear a surgical bra for the first couple of weeks after surgery. This bra may have a band which helps to hold the implants down during the postoperative period. After a couple of weeks patients typically switch to a sports bra without in underwire. As long as the bra is comfortable and supportive, without rubbing your incisions, then it should be okay to wear.

I do not favor a particular brand, but in general, a sports bra might be reasonable. It is always good to speak to you surgeon.

I don't have a specific brand bra I recommend to patients, at six weeks I usually advise them to wear what feels most comfortable to them.  That being said, I have my nurse keep a list of current stores carrying specific bras or compression garments that my patients wear in and rave about.  As you know, brands change and stores change so a current running tally of what works for patients is in important to update frequently.  I suspect your surgeon/nurse may have similar information and more importantly they know your particular surgery and can suggest what may be best for you.

Congratulations on having undergone the breast augmentation procedure. The question  regarding the use of bras is surprisingly common on this website;  there is no “standard” when it comes to the use of specific bras or garments after breast surgery. In other words, different plastic surgeons may have different practices when it comes to postoperative dressings/bras. Therefore, best to check with your plastic surgeon.   In my practice, once the surgical bra is discarded, I ask patients to transition to a soft, wireless, supportive but not irritating ( no rubbing/irritation of the surgical scars) sports bra of their choice.
