How do I massage and strengthen eye lids to resolve retraction and reduce swelling? (photos)

Lower eye blepharoplasty 3 weeks ago. Concerned about retraction, swelling & puckering. Should I take an oral antihistamine or using steroid/antihistamine type drops to help with swelling. Surgeon said he isn't worried & to continue with after care protocol of cold compresses 2 x day, Retaline individual dry eye relief drops, Systane night time eye lubricant & ointment on incisions. Next follow up in 3 weeks.

Three weeks after blepharoplasty there may still be a great of swelling. I always recommend following your surgeons instructions regarding postoperative care for best results. Cool packs are the safest way to deal with the swelling, and generally all that is needed. Medications containing steroids are beneficial, but must only be used for short periods to avoid complications. Gentle massaging of the lids at the appropriate time is helpful. When the swelling is excessive and causing lid retraction, taping of the lid for support may be necessary.

You may need revision surgery but best to wait 3+ months. In the meantime, massage the lower eyelids upwards, do squinting exercises, and consider scar medication injection. Communicate with your surgeon.

As time passes your situation should improve. What you are doing now seems appropriate. Gentle upward massage may be helpful. Supporting your lower lid with using a steri strip taping might be considered. Close follow up with your surgeon is recommended.

I would agree with your surgeon. Everyone heals differently and yours will probably end up ok.I don't think anything else will make that much of a difference in the speed of recovery.I don't think an anti-histamine would be useful.
