Can I fix one eye that is more hooded than other? (Photos)

Question

Is it serious? I have one eye that appears smaller or more hooded than the other eye. I have had this to some degree forever, but seems to look a little more obvious as I get older (also lost some weight). My mother and family members also share this facial trait. I am worried that it’s something medically troubling. Is it fixable? Thank you.

For significant improvement, hooded eyelids require surgery if there is enough skin. For nonsurgical treatments: Radiofrequency (Thermage or Venus Legacy/Viva), injectable fillers, and a Botox brow lift can help contour the eyebrows and lift the eyelid skin. You picture shows a very slight asymmetry. I think it is an early laxity. I think you would need to fix both sides, because it would be impossible to give you symmetry by operating only on one side. The procedure could be done under local anesthetic in the office.

Thank you for your question and pictures. It is difficult to see much difference in your photos. There is always some degree of asymmetry in the face, which is normal. As you get older, this may become more noticeable. Usually one eye is not treated by itself unless it is a muscle problem. An examination by a board certified plastic surgeon would give you the best answer to you concerns. Good luck.

Thanks for writing,Before one looks at eyelids, the brows need to be evaluated. As the brow drops so does the upper lid. Your photos don't show your brows well, your head is canted and photos are only two dimensional. The best way to determine what is going on is an in person evaluation. Also remember our body is asymmetrical, no two breasts, buttocks, of cheeks are exactly the same. This also need to be taken into account. I hope this helps, good luck.Stephen M. Yes it's possible to do small eyelid lifts under local anesthesia in the office to create more symmetry, but you should know that perfect is never ever possible.Having said that, I also noticed that in all 3 pictures, your head is somewhat tilted.  You should have your eye doctor examine you to ensure you don't have other vision issues.Be sure to discuss your goals and concerns with your board certified plastic surgeon and consider the pros and the cons. Be certain your surgeon is properly certified.

Facial asymmetry is the norm rather than the exception.  If based on generalized asymmetry, correction is possible but will likely heighten your concerns about other parts of your face. An examination would be necessary to evaluate any underlying causes, muscle weakness, etc.
