Liposuction pain at 3 weeks. Is it normal for the pain to wax and wain?

Had liposuction of abdomen flanks inner and outer thighs 3 weeks ago today. Still have lots of swelling. The pain was getting better day by day. However today the pain is worse. The areas are very sore to touch and kind of feels like stinging.

I recently had some surgery myself and now I can better relate to how annoying these post op garments are to live in!!  Your recovery sounds very much like what I expect post liposuction recovery to be.  Around 4 weeks post op there is usually an increase in brief sharp pains which is just nerves starting to regenerate.  Annoying but anticipated.  Continue communication with your surgeon and keep your follow up visits. Hello and thank you for reaching out. The complaints you are sharing all seem unfortunately normal following a liposuction procedure. There will be swelling that is present for sometimes up to 6 weeks, and the stinging pains that come and go are just your nerves waking up again after your procedure. All of these will settle down over the next few weeks, and as your body gets used to be active again, the swelling will decrease. Best Wishes.

Thank you for your question.  Hang in there.  Unfortunately you will have some pain, swelling and numbness for a few months.  The burning and sharp shooting pains will continue for a while and it is all normal.  Your nerves are regenerating and things will be back to normal soon.  It does take some time however.  Best of luck,Dr. Peter Newen
