How long to wear compression garment post liposuction abdomen and flanks?

Compression garments probably have no effect on the long-term outcome after liposuction. I prescribed them to my patients primarily for comfort. Not wearing them after two weeks is perfectly fine.

I have my patients wear compression 24/7 for 3-4 weeks and then overnight for up to 6 months. I would suggest speaking to your physician.  Best, Dr. Emer.

Though they do not affect your long-term surgical results, compression garments do help limit post-liposuction swelling which helps minimize your discomfort.  Each surgeon has their respective protocol for garment wear, and I tend to recommend 4-6 weeks for most patients. Thank you for your question.  In my practice, I recommend that my patients wear a compression garment for four weeks following a liposuction procedure.  I have patients wear the compression garment for the first four weeks following their surgery to help reduce the amount of post-op swelling that the patient experiences.  I also find that patients tend to be a little more comfortable with longer wear of the compression garment.  With that said, every surgeon has their own preference and post-op protocols (including compression garment use) so I would defer to your operating surgeons recommendation.  I hope you find this helpful and best of luck on your recovery!

Only your doctor knows the answer for your specific situation. I would suggest taking their recommendations into consideration. For my own patients, depending on the exact procedure they had, I recommend compression garments for 3-4 weeks post surgery. 

I prefer patients to wear a compression garment for 3-6 weeks after liposuction.  But some surgeons do not even recommend garments. Best of luck.

Thank you very much for your question.Every doctor has their own postoperative preferences, so I would follow your doctor's recommendations.I typically have my patients wear the surgical compression garment for 2 weeks, followed by a secondary compression garment like Spanx for another 2 weeks. I do feel that compression for longer helps the swelling to go away faster.  Again, that's just me.  Best of luck!

Compression is extremely important in the healing after liposuction. It helps to reduce swelling, reduce the incidence of seroma, or fluid collection, reduce the amount of bruising, and give abdominal support. Because the healing process continues over a very long period of time I have my patients wear their garments for six weeks post-op to ensure the best results. Best wishes!
