IPL Photofacial and Microneedling?

Question

I purchased a Groupon deal with 3 IPL Photofacial treatments or 3 micro needling treatments. I am able to use a mixture of these treatments if I want. What would be the most effective way to order these treatments? Is it more effective to do IPL before micro needling or vice versa? Or should I just do 3 treatments on one procedure? I have redness, sun damage and acne scarring as seen in the attached photo. Thanks!

in my practice we combine them, I suggest being evaluated to ensure that you are a candidate for either or both  and develop a long term plan with your provider.  Please only see an expert, both of these procedures can have complications.  Best, Dr. Emer.

Thanks for your question. IPL works great to reverse signs of sun damage including pigment irregularities, textural irregularities, redness, and prominent vessels. Micro needling is designed to induce collagen production in the deep layers of your skin and can be helpful against acne and chicken pox scars. In your case, I think for what you need, the micro needling would be the way to go. However, I would recommend getting on a good skin care program for about 4-6 weeks prior to any treatment to help get any acne under control and get your skin in good condition to achieve the optimal results possible. You would need to be seen in person to say for sure, but in the photo I see some acne scarring and not a lot of photodamage.  Given that, I would likely recommend starting with a series of microneedling treatments.However, the bigger question is- are you trusting your face to someone you found on Groupon?  Do you know who will be treating you?  Have you researched their qualifications and level of experience?  Is this a reputable office with appropriate physician supervision?
