Is 33 days before too early for labs and is hemoglobin of 11.7 good enough?

Question

My surgery is in 29 days and im super excited but my doctor didn’t have an appointment for 30 days exactly before it was 33 days will that have to be redone ? If it’s 3 days off also another thing im nervous about is hemoglobin they told me it has to be 12 but mine is 11.7 .. ugh will i have to do it over ? I struggle with iron deficiency anemia from heavy periods so even getting to 11 anything is big for me playing they aren’t strict And make me do it all over

every plastic surgeon has his own preoperative protocol which he recommends to his patients. I would suggest you to discuss this with your plastic surgeon.

For a simple breast augmentation, hemoglobin of 11,7 with history of anemia, should be acceptable considering minimal blood loss. We usually accept lab results 6 weeks or less before surgery providing that they are within acceptable range. Good luck.

Most places require permits within 30 days. Many places will accept labs at 33 days. You will need to follow the rules where you choose to have your surgery. Every facility and surgeon has their own protocols, but generally speaking for elective procedures, laboratory results from 30 days before surgery vs. 33 days before surgery shouldn't change significantly to prevent you from having surgery. With respect to the hemoglobin level, I think that is more of a judgment call on the surgeon's and/or facility's side of things. It depends on what surgery you are undergoing. If it is a smaller, less invasive surgery, I think it is very reasonable to proceed with a hemoglobin of 11.7. On the other hand, if it's a long surgery that's more invasive (anticipating more fluid shifts and blood loss), it might be better to err on the side of caution.

The best for you to address this exactly with your chosen surgeon than over an open form in the real self Internet. If my patient brought this to my attention of having a below accepted hemoglobin error amount 33 days before the plan surgery I would ask her to repeat this immediately just in case I would want her to start on iron infusions, etc. but again best to ask your chosen Surgeon good luck.

Congratulations on your upcoming surgery!  These questions, while fair, have to be answered by your surgeon and not this platform.  Your surgeon may ask you to repeat your hemoglobin test if there is concern that the results were too old or if the result is not acceptable.  Your surgeon will have to order these for you, so contacting the office to discuss them is the best next step.
