In general, ethnic rhinoplasty differs from Caucasian rhinoplasty in several ways - Ethnic noses may appear broad and flat with thick skin, and soft tip cartilage, where Caucasian noses may have a narrower appearance with high bridges, and projected nasal tips. Ethnic rhinoplasty goals may be to provide a narrower nasal appearance, and to provide height to the bridge when necessary. Ethnic rhinoplasty surgery invites three surgical challenges - thicker skin, a shorter septum, or a small bridge size. RealSelf is a good place to look for qualified surgeons. Check the doctor's before and after gallery to see their results with patients of different ethnic backgrounds before scheduling your in-person consultation. Hi,Most experienced rhinoplasty surgeons will have operated on patients with various skin types and on ethnically diverse patient populations. Knowledge of anatomy and advanced techniques using cartilage grafts will help when operating on thick skinned individuals. There is no substitute for a consultation where you can be fully examined and you and your surgeon can discuss your aesthetic goals. Best,Mehdi Sina, MD
Hello and thank you for your question. Thebest advice you can receive is from an in-person consultation. There are many techniques which can be used for thick skin in ethnic rhinoplasty, including cartilage reshaping, grafting, and soft tissue debulking. Make sure you specifically lookat before and after pictures of real patients who have had this surgeryperformed by your surgeon and evaluate their results. The mostimportant aspect is to find a surgeon you are comfortable with. I recommendthat you seek consultation with a qualified board-certified plastic surgeon whocan evaluate you in person.Best wishes and good luck.Richard G. Hi Saiya,Ethnic Rhinoplasty is by far the most challenging cosmetic operation in cosmetic surgery. This because the anatomy and skin thickness requires special techniques to achieve desired results. You are a great candidate for Ethnic Rhinoplasty. You can make your nose more harmonious and still preserve your ethnicity. Based on the photos you provided, you seem to have a bulbous wide tip, and wide nasal bridge. The bulbous tip needs to be reshaped, grafts may need to be used for the tip as well as the bridge of your nose. The bridge of your nose will have to be reconstructed, the nostrils narrowed. You are off to a great start as you know what you want to change about your nose. This surgery can be customized to each individual based on desired results. Do your research online and try to choose a surgeon that can deliver results that you seek. Surgeons before and afters will help you with that. Choosing the right surgeon who has experience is imperative; you want to avoid any revision in the future. Best,Dr.S.
It is pretty common, actually it is the most likely scenario when patients complain about columella droopiness or excessive visibility (columellar show), that for real the problem is located at the nostril rims, suffering alar rim retraction, do consider this option. If you wish better grounded ...
Dear Xnasnosax, thank you for your question, which is a concern for most patients after surgery. Typically, flying in a pressurized cabin 3 months following surgery does not cause swelling of the nose, especially if the flight is under 3 hours duration. Swelling however can occur in a cyclic...
Scratching your scalp should not cause damage to your nose. You can cause damage by hitting your nose and there is visible damage but not by scratching your head. If you are having nose bleeds after scratching then I would be concerned. I would just advise to be cautious with your arm when you a...
