Hi I had microneedling procedure done one me about a month ago, 2 weeks after the treatment I have very bad breakout. When I have then procedure done I had a few active acne on my cheeck and forehead. those are the areas on my face where I had very bad breakout now, and I kept getting new breakout. I went back to the saloon to asked them what went wrong, they said it is my own skin problem and not because of the procedure. But before this I do not have any major breakout before. Please advise.
Answer: Microneedling and active acne Hello, sorry for what you are going through. Yes active acne is a contraindication with microneedling. It can spread bacteria to other areas of the face and cause future breakouts. I would recommend seeing a dermatologist and explain your situation, to try and get the acne under control.

Answer: Acne and microneedling Sorry that you had a problem. Microneedling in the setting of active acne may lead to the spread of bacteria and infection. Microneedling may be done but the area of active acne must be avoided and by active I mean, perhaps only a few small pustules and not red and inflamed.

Answer: Microneedling, Acne Sorry for the issues you are having. Microneedling over active acne can spread the bacteria and cause further breakouts. I use a combination of medications and skin care to get one's acne under control before microneedling. If there are active breakouts, I mark these areas and explain to the patient that I will go around those/ not actively treat.Good luck to you,Dr. Powell

Answer: Microneedling and Breaking Out Hello chussy, you can in fact have a breakouts after microneedling. Typically, this happens when there is already an active breakout while the microneedling is being done. If the needle penetrates the infected area, it is then likely to spread to other areas of the face. The breakouts can also be caused by many other reasons as well as stress, hormones, and if the area was touched after the treatment while it was still healing. Don't be discouraged by the inflammation. Microneedling is still a fantastic procedure that has many benefits. It is great for diminishing fine lines and wrinkles, as well as acne scarring. I have very extensive experience with microneedling and my practice currently offers microneedling at $249. Please review my RealSelf profile for examples of this procedure. Thank you

Answer: Yes it can If you don't avoid the areas around the acne you can introduce the bacteria to other places. So it is possible. I would try a course of antibiotic cream or pills to take care of that possibility.
