Does microneedling on active acne causes infection?

Hello, sorry for what you are going through.  Yes active acne is a contraindication with microneedling.  It can spread bacteria to other areas of the face and cause future breakouts.  I would recommend seeing a dermatologist and explain your situation, to try and get the acne under control. 

Sorry that you had a problem.  Microneedling in the setting of active acne may lead to the spread of bacteria and infection.  Microneedling may be done but the area of active acne must be avoided and by active I mean, perhaps only a few small pustules and not red and inflamed.  

Sorry for the issues you are having.  Microneedling over active acne can spread the bacteria and cause further breakouts.  I use a combination of medications and skin care to get one's acne under control before microneedling.If there are active breakouts, I mark these areas and explain to the patient that I will go around those/ not actively treat.Good luck to you,Dr. Powell

Hello chussy, you can in fact have a breakouts after microneedling. Typically, this happens when there is already an active breakout while the microneedling is being done. If the needle penetrates the infected area, it is then likely to spread to other areas of the face. The breakouts can also be caused by many other reasons as well as stress, hormones, and if the area was touched after the treatment while it was still healing. 
Don't be discouraged by the inflammation. Microneedling is still a fantastic procedure that has many benefits. It is great for diminishing fine lines and wrinkles, as well as acne scarring. If you don't avoid the areas around the acne you can introduce the bacteria to other places.  So it is possible.  I would try a course of antibiotic cream or pills to take care of that possibility.
