I'm getting Radiesse filler in my cheeks to improve acne scars (especially in the area of the cheekbones), and I want to continue with the dermaroller treatment (I've had 6 so far with a 2mm roller), but I'm afraid the long needles will penetrate, "move" or even spread the filler. I've read the needles never penetrate to their full length and that the skin is thick enough not to allow even a 2.5mm roller to do so, but I'm still concerned the results of the injection will be lost or reduced.

Answer: Acne Scar Treatments Thank you for your question. No one has perfect skin, but you can probably get significant improvement in your acne scars. We never recommend dermarolling because of the damage it creates. The needles are placed on a cylinder. If you think about it, the needles enter at an angle, go straight down and come about out in the opposite direction at an angle. Instead of putting tiny holes in your face, it is putting tiny slits. If you do go the needling route, you must use a microneedle in safe and somewhat sterile environment. This site is filled with stories of weird infections post-microneedle.After a complete consultation in a medical setting, you would probably be a candidate for a several treatment options depending on your skin type, severity of the scars and how much downtime you can take. Keep in mind that more intense/deeper treatments require more downtime, but you will need less treatments. If you choose a short downtime treatment plan, you will need more treatments in the series. The most gentle would be something like the PicoSure FOCUS treatment with almost no downtime. It is safe for all skin types, but you would probably need 3 to 6 treatments. Another option would be a fractional 1540 nm laser treatment like ICON or Fraxel. With these treatment you could have redness and swelling for 1 to 3 days, but need less treatments. Based on your skin type, you may be a candidate for a fractional CO2 treatment with 7 days of redness and swelling. Look for a medical setting with a doctor in house, where they have multiple laser options. Best of luck.
