Matting can be a reaction to the procedures described, often related to an inflammatory response.  Often it will fade by 6 months.  Since you are 5 months out, it may not go away on its own.  For those patients I usually do some additional sclerotherapy ( possibly with a different agent ) or laser therapy to try to clear it up.  It may take 2-3 sessions to get full results.

Hello, It is appropriate that your doctor chose a different treatment method for a vein close to the skin.  UGFS does have less success.  There is a product called Varithena, however, that pushes a 94% closure rate.  The other alternative is to use Venaseal, a super glue for the leg, that does not require heat, or a truncal ligation and phlebectomy.  I prefer Venaseal or UGFS since there are less invavsive.  

Changing treatments based on the vein is appropriate, and shows a doctor knowledgeable in vein care.  A "one treatment fits all" does not work, and I have taken care of many unhappy patients who had this kind of care.

Swelling after any type of surgery or procedures is normal.  Sclerotherapy causes an inflammatory response, which results in swelling.  Some people swell more than others.  As the body heals, this should resolve.  

Leg elevation, compression socks, NSAIDs will help with this, but mostly it takes time.  This can range from a few days to several weeks.  If you have a lot of discomfort, or if the swelling does not go down with leg elevation, see your doctor to make sure there are no complications.

This appears to be a reticular vein, which I like to treat with sclerotherapy.  Microphlebectomy is also an option, but can be tricky on the shin since the skin is thin and often very fibrous in this area.

See an expert in Phlebology.  It may require more than one session to get complete results, but someone experienced should be able to help you get rid of this vein.

I usually prefer sclerotherapy as my first line of therapy, but for very tiny veins like those pictured, vein wave or microneedle RF is often my go to method.  Lasers can also work well.  Please be aware that any method can require multiple treatments, and it does not stop the formation of new ones.
