My Dr. Told me to use aquaphor on the new skin, which I did for a week and it caused breakouts and my face is healing very slowly. Can the aquaphor, an emollient be a bad idea to apply to the new fresh skin?

Answer: Aquaphor after CO2 Laser One week after a CO2 laser you are still making new skin. Often times, aquaphor is used for open cuts to enhance healing. Aquaphor is a good emollient, however, it can be occlusive because it is made with petroleum jelly. Aquaphor after CO2 or a deep phenol peel often times leads to clogged pores which causes white heads or little cysts called milia. There are other alternative topical agents that are not as occlusive but also may cost more. I recommend speaking consulting with the physician who performed the CO2 or else an expert in the field of lasers for the face (board certified dermatologists). There is no need to worry because it is reversible and this will not have permanent effects. Best of luck. -Dr.Jennifer Rullan
