My Dr. Told me to use aquaphor on the new skin, which I did for a week and it caused breakouts and my face is healing very slowly. Can the aquaphor, an emollient be a bad idea to apply to the new fresh skin?
Answer: CO2 Post Care After the CO2 laser, I tell my patients to do vinegar soaks (to prevent infection) and apply Vaniply Ointment for about 10 days post. Aquaphor contains lanolin which can sometimes cause irritation, so I’ve been recommending Vaniply over Aquaphor. These ointments act as a barrier on the surface of the skin to protect and prevent moisture loss. Because they are so occlusive, they can sometimes cause breakouts. I typically prescribe an antibiotic after CO2 to prevent infection and can also help prevent breakouts. Follow up with your provider to see about getting a prescription.

Answer: Co2 Laser Resurfacing For Wrinkles and Acne Scars -- USE Silicone Based Scar Gels with Growth Factors, Photodynamic Therapy I suggest you see an expert as skin care shouldn't include such occlusive ointments anymore. Start proper skin care and photodynamic therapy. Best, Dr. Emer.

Answer: Aquaphor after fractional CO2 laser treatment Thank you for your question madisonaidan. Fractional CO2 laser resurfacing is an outstanding treatment that can address multiple aspects of aging in a single treatment. Occlusive moisturizers such as Vaseline and Aquaphor help speed up the recovery time after a treatment. They go on best on a wet skin surface. I recommend that my patients use a very thin layer because applying too much can lead to breakouts in acne prone patients. Please consult with a doctor for specific recommendations. Good luck!

Answer: Aquaphor after CO2 Laser One week after a CO2 laser you are still making new skin. Often times, aquaphor is used for open cuts to enhance healing. Aquaphor is a good emollient, however, it can be occlusive because it is made with petroleum jelly. Aquaphor after CO2 or a deep phenol peel often times leads to clogged pores which causes white heads or little cysts called milia. There are other alternative topical agents that are not as occlusive but also may cost more. I recommend speaking consulting with the physician who performed the CO2 or else an expert in the field of lasers for the face (board certified dermatologists). There is no need to worry because it is reversible and this will not have permanent effects. Best of luck. -Dr.Jennifer Rullan
