You should be fine since Botox works superficially. However, I would definitely discuss first with your doctor just to be sure. Best, Dr. Nazarian
Your concerns are understandable, but I think youshould be fine receiving BOTOX. BOTOX works by paralyzing facial muscles andhas little effect on the other organ systems in your body. Having received twoliver transplants, it’s important that you review every medical decision youmake in person with your doctor. While there may be no immediately apparentissues with receiving an injectable cosmetic treatment, you don’t want to takechances with your health. Make sure you go to a qualified surgeon for yourBotox instead of using a DIY method, and speak with him or her about yourmedical concerns.
Thanks for your BOTOX® question. As far as injections andyour transplanted organ, BOTOX® injections shouldn’t have any adverse effectscaused by your liver. Fortunately, BOTOX® is not broken down by the liver, butrather it dissipates and breaks down into amino acids that are then eitherrecycled for use in other proteins or are excreted by the kidneys. That said,if your liver is a concern, it’s always best to discuss with this with yourprovider during a consultation. He or she will be able to give you personalizedinformation and answer any questions you might have regarding BOTOX®injections.
Thank you for your question. There are no contraindications regarding liver transplants and Botox. It is always a good idea to discuss your previous medical history with your injector. All the best,
Hello Linds5280,Thanks for your question. It should be safe for you to get Botox. Extra precautions in preparing your skin prior to injection must be taken to reduce your chance of localized infections. If you have any questions, though, please speak with your transplant medicine team.Warmest regards,Dr. Shah
Botox is fine in transplant patients. I suggest speaking to your transplant physician if you are concerned. Best, Dr. Emer.
Dear Linds5280:I am unaware of any contra-indication to the injection of Botox for cosmetic use in a transplant patients taking anti-rejection medications if you are in optimal and stable health.I would recommend discussing this with your immunologist and transplant doctors. If you choose to proceed, make sure proper antiseptic techniques are used to minimize infection. I wish you the best!
I know of no known contraindications to having botox ( or the like) with your transplant or the medications you are taking. However, I trust you do see a dermatologist as having a transplant increases your risk for skin cancers!
Hello Linds5280,Botox is not broken down by the liver. I've also never seen a study saying those drugs you are on affect the results of Botox. You are at a greater risk for an infection with the injections but as long as appropriate techniques are employed during the Botox injection you should be fine. I would recommend you discuss your concerns with your transplant surgeon, but I would have no problem injecting my patient if he or she had a transplant. I hope this helps and good luck.
This should not be an issue but given the severity of your medical issues you should discuss with your transplant doc first.
Hi Butterfly1983. Questions about long-term use of BOTOX are common at my practice. BOTOX works by relaxing facial muscles, but that won't lead to sagging or the loss of elasticity. In fact, the opposite is true. The constant contraction of facial muscles causes our skin to move. Think of skin...
