Pain in Right Groin Area After Tummy Tuck?

Question

My mini tummy tuck was 6 weeks ago. Three weeks later my lower abdominal was HUGE with a seroma. Dr has taken 440cc of fluid out so far. My right groin area is in a lot of pain and it hurts to walk. Can this be from the seroma ?

Better to discuss this one with your surgeon. Although it is possible that there is a relationship to the seroma, more likely is that this is a nerve compression. Most of these resolve as swelling goes down and as sutures dissolve. Sometimes the pain is related to the presence of a drain, and usually vanishes with drain removal.

Your discomfort is unlikely due to the seroma itself but may be related to pressure that the fluid places on a nerve that is nearby and runs down to the groin. If the discomfort was not there immediately after surgery, it is likely that it will improve as the surrounding inflammation improves, which will happen as the fluid stops collecting. Make sure you are telling your surgeon about your concerns and he or she may be able to evaluate the situation better.

I would believe that your nerve soreness relates to irritation along one of the nerves exiting along the lower part of your TT.  This should improve with time if you don't recall having this in the very beginning following the surgery.  A space occupying hematoma or seroma may certainly irritate the nerve, but I believe that your Plastic Surgeon may comfort you in suggesting that this should improve as the seroma settles and disappears.Good luck to you.Frank Rieger M.D.  Tampa Plastic Surgeon
