I am interested in fat transfer to the breast. I have read a lot about how pre-expansion (BRAVA) makes a significant difference in the amount of fat that can be retained vs. no pre-expansion. I just learned that BRAVA no longer is being made. Are there other pre-expansion devices? Do most PS still do pre-expansion or just the fat transfer to the breast alone? Thanks!
Answer: Fat transfer to breasts I was not aware the the Brava device was not longer being made but it wouldn’t surprise me. I was never impressed by the usefulness of the device. If they are no longer making it, consider that may be because it didn’t work so plastic surgeons weren’t buying them anymore.

Answer: Are there any pre-expansion devices that can be used in place of BRAVA before a fat transfer to the breast surgery? Hello, thank you for your question. I usually do not use expansion devices, breast fat transfer is a great tool to balance breasts, improve symmetry, and gain up to one cup size in volume. 200 cc per breast is typically the upper limit of fat injection recommended by most plastic surgeons. It is not that more cannot be injected; but on average, this has been determined to be the most that can be expected to live during one transfer. Multiple transfers would be required for additional cc's. In general, the abdomen and thighs are preferred donor sites but fat from other areas can be used. Thinner patients are outstanding candidates in my opinion, because the fat transferred is extremely resistant. The fat must be injected through multiple planes in small amounts to the tissue through one tiny incision under each breast. About 50% of the fat obtains permanence.

Answer: Fat Transfer to breast Thank you for your questionFat transfer techniques have improved dramatically over recent years due to improved processing techniques and the gold standard system is the PureGraft system. This is increasingly being used with smaller implants in so called hybrid techniques and is now very popular. Fat transfer alone is also popular but volumes will always be limitedIt would be best for you to see a plastic surgeon in person to discuss your objectives and wishes to chat this all throughGood luck!Paul Banwell (London)
