Areola reduction for tuberous breasts? Is it possible to only have an areola reduction and not the full procedure? (photo)

Question

I have slightly tuberous breasts(at least I think theyd be considered that...)but I don’t think it’s too severe of a case.I wear34A and my right breast is a bit more abnormal then the left.Im not too interested in implants but from what Ive looked into the full procedure to fix tubular breasts involves expanding the tissue under the breasts.Butwhen I’m cold and my areolas contract,do like how my breasts look.Is it possible to only have an areola reduction and not the full procedure?

Yes it is definitely possible to reduce the areolas without having implants placed. You point out another aspect of the procedure which is worth thinking about, which is the natural expansion and contraction of the areolas. If a permanent suture is used that does not occur, and this can feel unnatural. Consider use of an ADM (Strattice) donut instead.

Thank you for the question and for providing photos. Yes, it is possible to have areola reduction only without the addition of an implant, if this will meet your goals and expectations. If you are not keen on an implant based augmentation, then using your own fat (fat transfer) can be an option if you have adequate donor sites. This will require an assessment in person. From the photos it appears you have some constriction to the breasts.  If you are not interested in implants you can consider areola reduction.  This would improve the nipple herniation and downsize the areola.  If you wish to address asymmetry or stretch the tissues then further surgery would be needed.

Many thanks for your query. You do have mildly tuberous breasts.In such situations I would place implants ( which helps to expand the lower pole ), and reduce the areolas in one operation. It would be possible however to just reduce the size of the areolas initially and see if you are happy with the result. If not, then you can have the implants placed and any lower pole release at a second operation.
