Would lip injections be a good option for me? Is there any way to widen your lips? (Photo)

Your lips could be augmented with injections to selectively enhance the left and right sides more than the middle to give the appearance of a wider mouth. See some one who thinks critically about your request rather than just making your lips bigger. Good luck.

I think your lips are fine the way they are.  However, if you desire a more upturned look, then dermal fillers under the lateral commissures (outer edges of the lips) can accomplish this rather nicely.  There is no good way to alter the width of your lips.  Take care and good luck.

Lip augmentation (or Lip injections) is a cosmetic treatment that allows us to add volume to the lip using a Hyaluronic-Acid Based dermal injectable. There are several different fillers used for the lip, we would have to assess the patient in person to see which is the most appropriate. Below you may find the most standardly used products on the market.

1.     Juvederm Ultra XC

-          Juvederm Ultra is a Hyaluronic-Acid based filler that allows us to enhance lips that have good volume naturally, without changing the structure of the lip itself.

2.     Juvederm Ultra Plus XC

-          Juvederm Ultra Plus is made with the same material as Juvederm Ultra, but has greater viscosity. We prefer using this filler when the patient requires structural change to the vermilion border or cupids bow. Due to the characteristic of this filler we are able to achieve an “Angelina Jolie” look that has become a trend in younger patients. 

3.     Vobella

-          Making its United States debut this past year, Vobella uses Vycross technology to soften fine lines and wrinkles around the mouth. We also recommend this filler when we want the lip to appear more hydrated without adding volume.

4.     Restylane Silk

-          If a patient is looking for a subtle plump lip enhancement Restylane Silk is the premier filler. Its water absorption can lead to swelling so it is not recommend it prior to any special events.

Several treatments may be needed to achieve desired volume. Always discuss possible side effects with your Expert Injector.  

I think that, as surgeons, we should be careful to reign in a desire to always augment and, in my strong opinion, the lips are one area where, above all other areas in the face, over-augmentation can result in an unnatural appearance. When I look at your lips I see many more positives than negatives. Your upper lip has very well defined landmarks, such as a prominent cupid's bow, strong philtra, and a beautiful lobule. The lower lips also have very good volume and contour. Despite these features, the corners of your mouth are slightly down-turning, and this can give you the appearance of "narrower" lip width. My recommendation would be to add a very small amount of filler to give you a bit more volume to the lower lip compared to the upper lip (which is aesthetically pleasing, in my opinion) and also to elevate the lateral portions of your lower lip, which are the reason for the apparent down-turning of the corners of your mouth. Personally, I prefer Juvederm Ultra for a lip augmentation of this kind. Good luck :)!

You are an excellent candidate for lip augmentation. And, you have beautiful lips as a starting point. Dermal fillers are a great option to improve the shape and fullness in your lips. But, they will not be able to widen your lips. Thank you for sharing your photo and questions. Best wishes.
