I am aged 44 with darker skin. Will the Venus Viva cause any hyperpigmentation, or "needlepoint" scarring?

I have Indian subcontinental skin. I have some skin discolouration due to hormones. I have used Retin A for years, and have glycolic acid, microdermabrasion, or papaya enzyme peels during the winter months. Am I at risk of hyperpigmentation from the Venus viva?fat loss in eye or cheek area - will I be left with a few "sunken hollows"? I have never had a sunburn but I've been told that the Venus Viva is like having a sunburn for about 24 hours - will that cause pigment problems?

Dear patient, dark spots after Venus Viva treatments are extremely rate. I have treated many patients with Indian and Hispanic backgrounds with no issues. having said that I always prep the skin a week before with 4% Hydroquinone cream and Retin A.  I have not seen any fat loss from this modality. I hope this was helpful.

I have treated many patients with the venus viva and have not seen problems in darker skinned individuals but it is possible with any energy based device at higher settings.  I suggest you only see an expert.  Best, Dr. Emer.
