Three or four sessions, lasting 15–30 minutes each, are typically recommended, with one every four to six weeks. 

The FDA-cleared skin rejuvenation treatment combines aspects of microneedling and laser skin resurfacing. Considered an alternative to laser treatments, Venus Viva skin resurfacing is less ablative (meaning it damages the skin’s surface less) and has minimal downtime, but you need more sessions in your treatment plan for comparable results. 

Before using the device, your provider may apply a topical numbing cream, especially if you have a low pain tolerance. During the skin resurfacing treatment, your provider presses the device applicator into your skin several times to cover the targeted treatment areas. It creates a warm sensation that feels like a pinprick or rubber-band snap—especially with numbing cream, you’ll experience minimal discomfort. The plate of tiny pins on the applicator embed through the epidermis and deliver nanofractional RF energy as heat below the skin’s surface and into the dermis. This creates micro-dermal wounds and kickstarts a healing process that includes tightening collagen fibers and stimulating the cells that produce more.

After your skin resurfacing treatment, your skin will be red and a little swollen but not painful. You shouldn’t apply anything to your skin for a full 24 hours, not even cleansing it with water. After the first day, you can apply gentle skin-care products, like moisturizer to help with healing and sunscreen for protection. Within 72 hours, you’ll begin to see small dot scabs where the tiny pins came into contact with your skin. Resist the urge to pick them, to avoid delayed healing and potential skin damage, such as scarring, textural irregularities, or pigmentation issues. “You should expect to have a mild sunburn-like coloration for a few days and to see the actual pinpoints for a day or so,” says Dr. F. Victor Rueckl, a dermatologist in Las Vegas.

Results will continue to improve throughout your full series of three to four treatments and even after your final treatment, as your body continues to produce new collagen and your skin cells turn over, minimizing signs of skin damage. You’ll see more even-toned, tighter, and smoother skin.

Your provider may recommend additional treatments every 6–12 months, to maintain visible results.

Cost varies with provider location. Numbing cream may be included in the treatment price or added on separately.  Many providers offer Venus Viva treatment-series packages at a discounted rate, and some may even bundle Venus Viva with other treatments, like IPL, for more comprehensive results.
