I want a breast augmentation but I have vitiligo. Will a breast augmentation make it worse?

This surgery its not supposed to worsen your vitiligo. But it can cause some stress post-op and that can make worse yoru vitiligo. l recommend you to make an appointment with a board certified plastic surgeon to talk about your goals and anything you need to know.

There is no evidence to suggest that surgery can worsen vitiligo.  In fact, there are surgical procedures used to treat vitiligo. Your dermatologist will be able to help you decide if your particular condition or any medications you may be using might affect your cosmetic outcome.

Hello, thank you for your question. It is as you probably know, usually an autoimmune disease, It is hard to predict its spread. You should first talk to your treating dermatologist about any concerns he/she may have about the interaction of your vitiligo with your surgery.

Thank you for your question.Vitiligo is an autoimmune disorder of the skin. Surgery can be a stress on the body and may or may not effect the vitiligo.

It is possible that stress of surgery can trigger immune response that will result in worsening of your vitiligo. It is impossible to predict it but you have to be aware of the risk. Good luck.

there is a chance that your vitiligo will get worse after breast augmentation. If you are considering a surgery, I would suggest you to consult a board-certified plastic surgeon. Only after a thorough examination you will get more information and recommendations.

Thanks for the question! There's no direct correlation between breast augmentation and worsening Vitiligo. Because of the stress of surgery there could be a temporary worsening or improvement in your vitiligo.

Dear Eclectic,Breast augmentation, in fact, any surgery causes a stress to the autoimmune system.  So, there is a possibility that your vitiligo could be worsened, as there may be an autoimmune component to the condition.  Ask your dermatologist, but I would wager that no one is going to give you a guarantee that vitiligo will not be affected by breast augmentation.  Good luck!
