Question

Last Saturday, kiddos gone, game of strip poker, some wine and the man turned into me waking up on the Dining room floor, naked and freezing. The evil White Zin told me to hit the sun lamp bed to warm up QUICKLY. Woke up 2 hours later and hit the button again! Now I am worried about a very bad reverse swimsuit lines burn. Xoncerns about damage to my nips and scar tissue. Does this mean potential problems in the future like a Melanoma of the nipple or other areas! Putting the wine away

Ultraviolet light from the sun or sun lamps will make scars redder longer. In general incisions can change in color from one to two years. When your surgeon gives the ok for tanning I recommend using a sunblock 30 or better.Dr. Ted Eisenberg

For a severe sun burn, you should see dermatologist and/or physician. Having repeated sun damage will surely increase the risks of skin cancer. You will need long term follow up.Good luck, Dr. ALDO

A sun burn to a recently operated area can cause some darkening of the skin and scar called hyperpigmentation. It typically gets better over time. Skin cancers such as melanoma occur based on a variety of factors including genetics and sun exposure. Best to very mindful of sun protection to avoid these kinds of issues.

Thanks for posting.  Sun burns or significant sun exposure can cause trouble after recent surgery. Your skin does not have normal sun defense after surgery, and this is for several months. Your scars can be darkened by the sun, and your skin can be burned more easily as well. Best to see your surgeon and have them assess the area. Discuss with your surgeon when it is okay to be in the sun.

Hard to decipher exactly what your concerns are but sun tanning and sun burn will not have any affect on your healing or scarring following breast augmentation. It is advisable to always protect your skin from sun burn when possible as damage to your skin overtime has been associated with skin cancers. Hope this was helpful.

Hello and thank you for your question.  Scars can take up to a year to fully heal and ideally until then, you shouldn't tan due to the scars getting hyperpigmented .  We see a lot of skin cancer and the risk with tanning beds is extemely high , especially as you age.  I only advise topical tanning with lotions or sprays.
