Stitches in breast nipple. Do I let it dissolve naturally or should I pull it?

I would recommend showing it to your surgeon. Your surgeon will know best if it is the type of suture that can be removed at this point or whether it needs to stay longer.

Some doctors utilize stitches that are dissolvable. Others use permanent stitches that must be removed. If one is not sure, one should ask one's surgeon what to do with the stitches. These are the normal type of questions one should ask or learn about when undergoing a surgery.

Always return to your surgeon to ask these questions. Never remove your sutures on your own because there may be reasons your surgeon wants these sutures to remain.

Sutures can be either dissolvable or non-dissolvable.  Surgeons choose sutures for different reason, and either can be used around the nipple and areola, although the majority of sutures are dissolvable.  The most common thing that happens with a dissolvable stitch is that instead of dissolving, it spits its way out to the surface (much like a sliver working its way out of your hand).  When this happens, it is called a stitch abscess and you can often see a little knot or a tail sticking out.  For the most part, this doesn't cause any significant problem.You should contact your surgeon to determine what kind of suture this is and what the best course of action is based on the type of suture used.  Good luck.

Why not simply go back to your surgeon for evaluation and possible removal?  Your surgeon is best equipped to make that determination. Best wishes.

If the sutures are dissolvable, they can likely stay and dissolve (or be removed if troublesome). The permanent material sutures/stitches can be removed when the incision has healed.
