Should I stop wearing surgical tape? (Photos)

Question

I am 5 and a half week post op from my BA. The problem is that the skin next to my incision seems to be irritated (look at photos). It is all read, clear/yellow fluid are coming out of my skin and it have started hurting a bit. I have orderd silicone tape and it will arrive on Monday. Right now I am using micropore. Should I stop wearing it? Or do you have any other advice?

This does look like an allergic reaction to the micropore tape. It should settle when you stop using the tape. You could use a steroid cream to speed things up. You shouldn't really have a dischrage from the wound, you should see your surgeon to ensure that things are alright.

It is rare to be allergic to Micropore tape but it does look as it you are.I would agree with the other Doctors that you should remove the tape and if the redness does not settle apply a steroid preparation to the red area.It may be worthwhile scheduling a meeting with your Plastic Surgeon if the area remains reddened.

You look to have had a reaction to the tape and best to remove. This should resolve although a steroid based cream may be useful. I would see your PS for advice esp regarding the pain and discharge.

Thank you for your question.  Based on your photo you appear to have a contact dermatitis caused by the tape. The usual treatment for this is to remove the tape and apply topical 1% hydrocortisone.  However it is important that you see your plastic surgeon to confirm contact dermatitis and the use of a topical steroid.
