Can I get rhinoplasty before maxillofacial?

Question

I'm wearing braces right now but I'm not able to get maxillofacial this summer as I planed because my mouth will not be ready. My school year will not allow me enough recovery time so I'll be forced to wait another year which was really disappointing. I have already met my rhinoplasty surgeon and he said it would be no big deal to go ahead and have the rhinoplasty before but then again I don't know if he is just trying to make money off me. I have a large overbite and they will be moving my jaw forward.

Every case is different when it comes to a situation such as yours.  I would recommend you run this by your oral surgeon as well.  I tend to agree with your plastic surgeon and that it would be okay to proceed with the rhinoplasty.  Good luck!

My recommendation would be to wait after the maxillofacial surgery to have the rhinoplasty done as the proportion of your nose, chin, and jaw will be different. I would recommend that you have your rhinoplasty surgery after your maxillofacial surgery.  The final result will be more precise.

thank you for your question. You should trust your plastic surgeon but if you have doubts you can always get a second opinion. Generally speaking, a rhinoplasty should fully heal in that period of time so it shouldn't make any problem.

Based on your history, I think it's advisable to wait until your maxillofacial surgery is complete and healed, before considering rhinoplasty. Your jaw/chin/nose relationships will change with such surgery and may impact the decision you make regarding which rhinoplasty techniques you are seeking.
