This internal mesh has become very helpful in difficult situations. Obviously make sure the surgeon is experienced with Galaflex because I think it took me over a year to get enough experience to offer it regularly. Best Wishes!!
Thank you for sharing your question. In the right hands and for the right indications it works well.
With other surgeons and professors at Harvard, I wrote the chapter on breast augmentation revision with Strattice and other materials and techniques in Annals of Plastic Surgery. However, I certainly do not use it in every revision. I use it in probably 1 out of every 20 revisions for very specific indications in which there is an intrinsic laxity of tissues and poor local tissue support. This will largely be a function of the indication for the usage of Strattice. If it is used in recurrent capsular contracture, the concern would be different than if it were used to help in pocket reconstruction or prevention of bottoming out. Check with your PS to determine which would be better for your revision.
Galaflex is usually used for revision breast implant surgery to maintain proper implant position. It is usually not used in primary breast augmentation surgery. When needed, it is effective as it provides a sling for the implants to rest if the breast pocket becomes too large and the implants drop to a level that is too low. I hope this helps.
Dear Thrifty222828,every plastic surgeon has his preferred techniques and some use GalaFlex while others don't use it. If you are considering a surgery, I would suggest you to consult a board-certified plastic surgeon. Only after a thorough examination you will get more information and recommendations.Daniel Barrett, MDCertified, American Board of Plastic SurgeryMember, American Society of Plastic SurgeryMember, American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery
Thank you for the question and in the appropriate patient it certainly is useful as is Durasorb that does not require a drain. So go on some complimentary consultations with experts and compare recommendations after a full examination Dr Corbin
I have performed breast augmentations, breast implant revisions, and breast lifts for a substantial length of time. If you do the surgery correctly and have a specific 3 month postop routine to promote accurate healing, I have never needed to use this material.
