Hi doctors: I had Kybella done 4 weeks ago and the majority of swelling has now gone. However, when I tilt my head back and open my jaw wide there is a clunking noise and tenderness coming from the muscle in my neck on the right side. When my doc injected that area I had a lot of discomfort and it felt very full and odd. Now, there is this strange noise when I open my mouth. It is also lumpy there. Could the doctor have damaged my throat/neck muscles?
Answer: Kybella Swelling -- Lymphatic Massage, Radiofrequency (Venus Legacy, Exilis Ultra), Compression Kybella can irriatae the muscle if it gets into it and can be improved with massage, RF treatments and time. Best, Dr. Emer.

Answer: Kybella Dear Pinkwillow,Kybella typically takes 3 to 5 treatments to work. This is why I've stopped carrying Kybella in my office. I recommend neck liposuction more often then any injectable procedure for the neck now. It provides superior results gives me more control over the area than any injectable. It also costs about the same as what you paid for your first kybella session. The liposuction can be done under local while awake in the office and recovery is about the same as kybella.Daniel Barrett, MD Certified, American Board of Plastic Surgery Member, American Society of Plastic Surgery Member, American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery

Answer: Kybella Injection Hi and thank you for your question! Since the target of Kybella is the fat tissues, it is rare that it ends up in muscles, but it is still a possibility. What you are experiencing could be related to inflammation which could last for a couple of weeks or could be an incidental issue. I highly recommend that you do a follow up with your doctor as he/she is the one who knows where the injections were places and should be able to examine the area and address your concerns. I hope it helps and good luck!

Answer: Is it possible to get Kybella/Belkyra in neck muscle? This is difficult to answer without an exam. Kybella is very safe and effective when injected correctly however it is an acid and can damage the underlying muscles, nerves and other structure of injected too deep or cause ulceration of the skin if injected too superficially. I recommend following up with your doctor for evaluation. -Dr. Hernandez
