Kybella use for abdominal fat?

Question

i am male, 49 y/o and 10% bodyfat. with very good abdominal muscle tone. i was originaly considering a liposuction revision for very well delineated pockets of fat immediately around by navel and lower abdomen below the belt line. It was suggested to me to look into a practitioner who uses Kybella "off label" to deal with such problems. How effective is this treatment on the abdomen and (maybe ?) flanks? thank you

No, I don't recommend Kybella for this, because it lacks body shaping. For best results, I recommend a hi definition procedure like VASER liposuction. I use VASER HI DEF with ThermiRF and fat grafting to get the most fat removal, skin tightening, contour and definition. This combination will give you the most toned result. Thank you for your question. Yes, you can use Kybella off-label to reduce abdominal fat. We use Kybella in our office to treat other areas such as the love handles and bra/back fat. The active ingredient in Kybella is a naturally-occurring molecule in the body that aids in the breakdown and absorption of dietary fat 
Another option, especially if you are looking to treat a larger area is fat freezing.

Kybella is very effective to treat small areas of fat deposits.  It is very smooth and permanent.  Common areas are lower abdomen, inner thighs, bra fat.  Kybella is FDA approved to be used on the chin and neck.

Kybella is indicated for fat under the chin. If used elsewhere on the body is an off label indication. For the results you ate looking for I would not suggest Kybella. Hi definition liposculpture is the way to go.

While there are some providers utilizing Kybella off-label for other areas of the body, my first choice for the type of fat reduction you are looking for would be SculpSure (cryolipolysis is also another option). Unless the pockets of fat on your stomach are very very small, Kybella off-label treatments for this area could get exorbitantly expensive. Additionally, there just isn't enough data on using this product in areas other than the submental area for me to feel comfortable recommending it to my patients. An option like SculpSure is indicated for adbominal fat reduction, provides great results with 2-3 treatments, and would likely be less expensive for you to pursue.

it is off label as you mentioned for that indication which means it's not FDA approved.  They are undergoing clinical trials for that indication but results are pending.  Theoretically,  it should work the same way in this area but it is not yet approved for that use.

Hi horsemaster68, Before it was labelled as Kybella, deoxycholic acid was used in mesotherapy. Currenty, it is FDA-cleared for dissolving submental fat but can be used for the abdomen. However, it may not be cost-effective since it needs to repeated. All the best, Justin Harper, M.D.

Hi,You are probably better off looking into Sculpsure or Coolsculping to eliminate a small pouch of belly fat. Both techniques have been shown to reduce abdominal fat by 25%. My preference is Sculpsure.Best,Dr.S.
