Apo mometasone (nasonex) 5 days post septoplasty?

Question

I accidentally grabbed the wrong bottle and uses nasonex to clean my nose. I'm 5 days post septoplasty. As soon as I realized it I followed up with a saline spray. Will this affect my recovery? I'm very worried I overdosed.

Thank you for your question.  Fortunately, I think the risk of it affecting your recovery is probably very low.  Nasal steroid spray immediately after septoplasty can irritate your membranes and may increase the risk of bleeding.  Although I suspect that you did no harm, you may feel more relieved once you are seen by your surgeon in person.  I encourage you to reach out to him/her to express your concerns. A single accidental application of a topical steroid in your nose would not ordinary result in any longer term problems. Let your surgeon know what happened and follow up with your doctor for an examination. Best Wishes.
