Nasal septum deviation and nasal polyps

Deviated nasal septum and nasal polyps can both cause nasal congestion so it would be difficult to assess the causes of obstruction without a thurough nasal examination. A Septoplasty is done under general anesthesia or at least sedation as the surgery can be quite stimulating and usually requires removal of some bone and cartilage from the septum.

A thorough internal examination of the nose by an ENT  doctor is required to make a determination about what may be causing the breathing issues. There are many  factors that can cause nasal obstruction such as a deviated nasal septum, turbinate hypertrophy, nasal polyps, chronic sinusitis, allergies, valve collapse, and vestibular stenosis. Each one of these is treated differently with medications or surgery. A CAT scan of the sinuses will be required to make a determination about the extent of nasal polyps if their present. Surgery involves a general anesthesia by a board-certified physician anesthesiologist.

Sounds like you need an evaluation by an ENT physician. they should inspect your nose and look for the problems causing you your breathing problems. Any surgery is done using drugs.
