Breast band 4-6 weeks post op?

Every surgeon will have a slightly different protocol following breast augmentation surgery. And they can be very different indeed. Some surgeons want the patients to wear compression bras for 6 weeks and others prefer no bras. Some will suggest massage and others don't want you to touch them at all. There really is no consensus which means that nobody is right and nobody is wrong, necessarily. If you are impressed with your surgeon's results on other patients, my suggestion would be to follow their post op advice, even if it doesn't make sense. I personally would not suggest what your surgeon has asked you to do, but I would still follow the advice if his/her results with others has been good. 

I typically don't have my patients needs a band either after surgery. If your surgeon recommends this then I would follow it. Do not use a bra with the band because the bra is going to push the  implants up in the band wants to push the implants down. It's counterproductive.

There is wide variability in what different surgeons will recommend after augmentation surgery -- some say to wear the band, others do not, some advise massage while others don't, etc.  I personally do not have patients wear a compression band after surgery, instead recommending a gentle support bra for several weeks.  Having said that, I'd recommend that you follow the advice of your Plastic Surgeon.  You trusted him enough to let him operate on you, I'd trust his instructions, too.  He probably has a good sense of what works well with his patients.

To avoid your nipples showing while wearing the band, try breast petals sold at local department stores. In terms of wearing the band for four to six weeks, when plastic surgeons recommend the band, it is to help push the breast implants downward, encouraging them to drop. A breast band, also called a bandeau, is useful at exerting mild downward pressure on the breast implants when the tissues need encouragement to relax.  Wearing a bra in addition to the bandeau should be no problem as long as the bra is loose and does not counter the effects of the bandeau.  You may also want to wear a small pad under the bandeau where it crosses over your armpit as this area can get sore from the strap.

varies from patient to patient and surgeon to surgeon.  The strap is important in helping you achieve your desired results and should be worn.  But ask your surgeon if it would be okay to use a non-functioning bra (no support) on special occasions to allow you to wear a nicer outfit?  As for nipples protruding, band-aids will take care of that until you can start wearing a bra again.

Some surgeons use breast bands to help position the implants. I do not usually have my patients use bands after surgery.

As you can see opinions with regards to using a breast band will vary greatly. I do not automatically have my patients use one. I reserve the use of a breast band for those whose implants appear to be riding high initially. The breast band serves as encouragement for them to drop. I do like my patients to wear a soft sports bra following surgery for a few weeks. Discuss your concerns with your surgeon. Often times the post op protocol can be adjusted to maximize your comfort.

In most cases, a soft sports bra is OK after breast augmentation, with or without a breast band. Ask your surgeon about this.

I do believe in the use of breast bands or pole wraps when indicated.  It is very important to follow the instructions of your plastic surgeon who understands thoroughly the procedure that you had done.Certainly if you want to wear a loose fitting bra on important social occasions I see no harm in that but I would ask your plastic surgeon.The key would be to worry loosefitting comfortable bra that does not force the implants upward against the pole wrap.
