I am having my surgery on Monday- a septo as well as rhinoplasty. I am getting nervous about the outcome of the rhinoplasty. I am generally very happy with my face however my nose is a polly beak (barely) and is a tad curved to one side. I really just want these two things fixed. A very minor tweak. I am also debating on breaking the nose versus not breaking the nose. I don't want the change in my nose to be THAT noticeable and I don't want people to know. Any help would be appreciated!
Answer: Upcoming nose surgery Prior to undergoing rhinoplasty surgery you should be absolutely certain that you and your surgeon are on the same page about the goals for the aesthetic outcome of surgery. These questions should have already been discussed in consultation. If you are still uncertain about the plan for surgery I recommend you consult your surgeon again prior to your operation on Monday.

Answer: Difficult decision CRC: Subtle changes to the nose are probably more difficult to achieve than a major change, ie. taking down a big dorsal hump. This is because there is a small degree of unpredictability with how a nose heals. Swelling can be slightly asymmetric, etc. You could consider trying to fix the curvature with filler injection which should last about a year, but this would need to be repeated about every year as the filler will resorb. Similarly, depending on your nose, the pollybeak could be potentially be camouflaged with filler...this is less certain and surgery might be the only way to refine your tip/supratip region. The nice thing about filler is that is can be melted if you don't like it...completely reversible. If you have reasonable expectations of improvement not perfection you will likely be quite pleased with the result of your rhinoplasty. Best of luck.

Answer: 3D IMAGING I like to perform 3D imaging with my patients so that there is a better communication of goals. I usually find that patients are more comfortable with the plan that I propose when we review the steps together and see what the result may look like. Some patients ask to have more of a change while others want less. I would discuss your concerns with your surgeon. Small changes are possible.

Answer: Minor tweaks to the nose I always tell my rhinoplasty patients that I am not the one to be happy, but rather , the patient is. I try to discover what the patient wants, then see if I can deliver. Make sure your surgeon knows what you want.

Answer: Minor tweaks to a nose During a consultation with your rhinoplasty surgeon, you should have photos taken and computer imaging performed to clarify expectations for both of you. You should feel comfortable with the plan and proposed changes to your nose. Whether or not your nose needs to be broken should be decided by your rhinoplasty surgeon because they may need to do this to get the desired result. The changes should be natural and fit harmoniously with your face. Best of luck.
