Can I be anesthetized while getting cheek and lip fillers?

there is absolutely not reason to be "put out" for filler injections. cannulas, numbing cream, ice, and pro-nox can be used to limit pain.  I suggest you see a well trained facial sculptor who has very little pain with injections.  Best, Dr. Emer.

We typically offer our patients topical anesthetic ointment, followed by topical ice - prior to injection. Most of the fillers (Juvederm and Voluma) contain some local anesthetic to make the injection more comfortable overall. I have not had any patients request sedation of any type, and I think this would inhibit the injection process.

Dear oddball95I find that once you have found  a doctor you trust, the anxiety for getting facial injections is minimized. use of many techniques, including gateway pain theory and local anesthesia are wonderful and helpful adjuncts. Sedation is an overkill and not needed. Look for an experienced doctor that will help you and work with you to achieve your goals.

Thanks for your question.  The issue isn't so much if this could be done; it certainly is possible to use some form of sedation to accomplish your filler injections.  The real question is whether or not this is advisable, and whether or not you can find a physician who will be willing to do this for you. General anesthesia is not without its own risks, so not all physicians will feel comfortable using it in this setting.  In my personal practice, we have never had the need to use sedation or general anesthesia for lip or cheek filler treatments as it really isn't that uncomfortable for the patient. No, it is not advisable to have systemic sedation just for getting fillers. If you are that anxious or have an extremely low tolerance for discomfort, I would advise you against getting this treatment.

I typically use local blocks so the area is numb in patients like you but you could be sedated with oral medication if that is your preference.

Cheek fillers can be injected close to painlessly.  There is no need for sedation.  The fillers normally contain numbing medicine and if done slowly is easily tolerated.Lips are more sensitive and a "dental" block can numb them making the experience much easier.There really is no reason for you to take valium and i'm pretty certain that you'd agree after your first treatment.  Best wishes.
