In Colombia, a very well respected teacher, plastic surgeon created a method about 10 yrs ago, where "something" is injected in the area where the silicone was injected, and by making little holes (injection) around the area, after 10 minutes, you see silicone material dripping out from for ex, buttocks. I was wondering if there is anyone in USA who uses this method, and how efficient is for the removal of such damaging bodies illegally injected. This technique uses local anestesia
Answer: Multipuntura-succion Technique Thank you for your question regarding the multi-puncture session technique to remove silicone injections. No, I have not heard of this technique. Usually, silicone is very thick and viscous and requires large holes for drainage. Additionally, injected silicone forms scar tissue, which will not allow the silicone to drain through multiple small punctures. Therefore, this technique does not work effectively for significant silicone removal. Although it sounds like a great idea, it simply does not work. Please see an experienced, board-certified plastic surgeon when considering getting silicone removed. There are two main ways to remove silicone: the open technique and the closed technique. During the open technique, an incision is made, and the offending silicone and surrounding scar tissue are removed. With the closed technique, a remote incision is placed and the scar and silicone are removed with suction. Thank you for your question regarding the multi-puncture technique, which does not work for silicone injection removal. Sincerely, Dr. Katzen

Answer: Removal of Silicone from the face and body Removal of silicone, bioalcamid, PMMA, and Artefill from the soft tissue is a complex problem and can be addressed by anti-inflammatory agents and microsurgery. I use a less invasive surgical approach that can remove and dissipate granulomas and fibrous tissue. In terms of facial silicone removal, an ultrasound can sometimes help gauge the grade of Karamanoukian Staging for soft tissue inflammation. The video demonstrates one of our techniques. Answer: Silicone injections There are many people who take advantage of silicone injection problems. There is nothing that dissolves silicone. Silicone oils and gels injected cause severe inflammatory reaction and very hard granulomas. Only surgery can remove the granulomas and some of the injected silicone.

Answer: Removing silicone The problem with removing injected silicone once it's gone bad is not all about the silicone. The body responds to the silicone by making hard inflammation and scar tissue. There is no such thing as silicone milking and coming back out. The tissue has been destroyed and generally needs to be removed. It is also possible to get serious, and sometimes life-threatening, infections when surgically attempting to remove injected silicone. These are severe and complicated situations.Unfortunately, we have no great way of taking care of this problem.Best of luck,Mats Hagstrom, M.D.
