Why does my implants heat up when I exercise during cardio ?

PIP implants manufactured with unapproved silicone gel are 2 to 6 times more likely to rupture than standard silicone implants. The implants can cause some unpleasant side effects though have no proven long-term health effects.  Signs of a rupture include
lumpiness or swelling in and around the breast   a change in the shape of the breast redness pain and tenderness a burning sensation enlarged lymph nodes in the armpit Consult with the surgeon who placed your implants to determine if they should be removed.

It sounds like your implants may be contributing to your discomfort during exercise, especially with overheating and excessive sweating. PIP implants, in particular, have been associated with issues due to their lower-quality silicone, which has been a concern for many patients. Given that your implants are 13 years old, they are well beyond the typical recommended replacement period (usually around 10 years), which could be contributing to the symptoms you’re experiencing.
Possible Reasons for Overheating:
1. Insulation Effect – Implants can retain heat, and since they sit under the skin, they may make your chest area feel much hotter during exercise.
2. Increased Circulation & Blood Flow – Cardio raises your body temperature, and the implants may interfere with your body's natural cooling process.
3. Sweat Gland Stimulation – Changes in your body over time (like hormonal shifts) can cause excessive sweating in areas where sweat glands are compressed.
4. Potential Implant Integrity Issues – PIP implants were made with non-medical-grade silicone, and over time, they can degrade, potentially leading to reactions like rashes and inflammation.
5. Capsular Contracture or Immune Response – Your body's response to the implants over time might be triggering increased sweating, overheating, or inflammation.
What You Can Do:
• Medical Check-up – Since you've been experiencing rashes and excessive sweating, it might be wise to get a check-up with a breast specialist or plastic surgeon. They can assess if your implants are intact and if there are any signs of complications.
• Cooling Strategies – Wearing moisture-wicking workout clothes, staying hydrated, and exercising in a cooler environment might help ease your symptoms.
Since your symptoms have been worsening over the last two years, it would be a good idea to get your implants checked as soon as possible. Even if you haven't had major problems before, changes like rashes, excessive sweating, and overheating could be signs that your body isn't tolerating them well anymore.

Hello,Thanks for your question.I have had a few patients who have commented about their implants feeling both hot and cold at various times including excerising which is not uncommon and it has not been something that has concerned me.However, what does concern me in this case is that you have PIP implants. I would recommend that you return to your original surgeon to check that your implants are okay. In the meantime you could see your GP to request an ultrasound scan to help elevate your worry.

In 2011, it came to light that French company Poly Implant Prothese (PIP) manufactured millions of breast implants over a period of 10 years, unfortunately using substandard industrial grade silicone. These implants ruptured at over 2 x normal rate. When compromised, the non-medical grade silicone has been known to cause inflammation (the heat you describe?) and scarring (the rashes and red spots you describe?). Other long term issues have yet to be identified. 
I strongly recommend you undergo evaluation by a board certified plastic surgeon regarding this issue sooner than later.
