Always follow up with your doctor for any post operative care issues.  It is also a courtesy to your doctor to keep him/her in the loop.  Your doctor will know the specifics of your surgery and will be better able to advise you. It is not generally advisable to use hair straighteners or hot irons after surgery.

Using a hot iron is not a good idea after a hair transplant for at least 1 months, possibly never if you don't know how to be careful with it. If the doctor had trouble getting out more than 1400 grafts, there must be some reason, as we almost never see that as a problem so ask your doctor again about it and reference what I said here.
