What does “545 to 595cc implant” mean exactly?

When using saline implants there is an inherent fill range. Typically, in an effort to avoid rippling, surgeons will typically favor filling implants to capacity. However, they do offer a measure of flexibility intra-operatively. Your surgeon will make a judgment call based upon your goals and anatomy.As always, discuss your concerns with a board certified plastic surgeon (ABPS).

Dear AlexandraLow,breast implant type and sizing selection is a complicated process and requires a detailed consultation that includes a discussion of your goals, a detailed examination, and a lengthy discussion. But the decision will always start and end with the patient. When it comes to sizing, we have all of our patients find 3 photos of their desired breast size. We ask for naked breast photos because clothing can obscure the true size (push up bras). Next, we consult with patients and go over the photos and take detailed breast measurements during a physical exam. Next, we using a sizing algorithm to determine a range of implants that will work based on the exam and the measurements.Lastly, during the operation, we use silicone sizers in the operating room to see how the size actually looks in the breast. We sit the patient up in the operating room, while asleep of course, and compare the sizer result with their desired look photos. If it is too small, we start the process over with a slightly larger implant. We don't stop until we get the perfect match.Of all of my breast augmentation patients, every one of them has been happy with their size due to this detailed and meticulous process. If you are using saline implants, the implant can be filled anywhere in the range "545 to 595cc".  The exact amount is usually determined in the OR depending on what looks best.  If you are using silicone implants, the exact size may be determined in the OR based on the use of surgical sizers.  Be sure to discuss with your surgeon your concerns.  Best wishes.

Hi. There is a range given by the PS  because we determine the exact volume when making the pocket in which we will insert the implant. At that moment we try  with a sizer, and after confirming which volume fits best the pocket, then we choose thet volume of implant to placed. That's why we enter the OR with at least with 4 pairs of implants.

Not a silly question but one that should be answered by your plastic surgeon. The answer will differ, depending on whether you are having saline or silicone gel breast implants utilized. Do not hesitate to have all of your questions, concerns, and goals discussed again; careful preoperative communication is one of the keys to successful breast augmentation surgical outcomes. Best wishes for an outcome that you will be very pleased with.

With silicone implants these may be two different sizes of silicone implant in which case it would be either or. If there was a size in between then that size could be selected. Sometimes the implant is selected during surgery by placing sizers (like implants) in the pocket to assess the result that will be produced,  so the actual implant size is not always selected prior to surgery.With saline implants this is the estimated amount of saline that your surgeon anticipates using. This may be defined in the product information for a particular implant as a maximum and minimum amount of saline that can be added to an implant.

We are assumoing that your surgeon will be using saline implants. Saline implants have a range of fill volumes, which means they have a minimum and a maximum amount of fluid (saline) that the manufacturer has deemed appropriate for that size device.This.gives the surgeon and the patient some flexibility in deciding how big of an implant to place. .Also, if one side is larger or smaller, the other side can be filled more or less to make them even. If they are silicone implants, again, your surgeon will determine what size fits best in the operating room with the implant in place. 

If you are going with saline implants, then the numbers represent the minimum and maximum fill volumes. Most of use use the maximum number to minimize the chance of rippling.Good luck,

With regard to the specific size, I recommend that you ask your surgeon about this.  Be sure to have all of your questions answered during a face-to-face meeting with your surgeon, and review before and after pictures of similar patients whom have had this procedure.
