Is it possible to get cellulitis 16 weeks post op from an Abdominoplasty? (photos)

Question

I had my procedure done September 23, 2016. About 8 days after I got a serious infection from the drain site and was admitted back into hospital and a second surgery was done to clean and drain fluid from under the skin. After all of the antibiotics I got C. Diff and was sick for another 3 weeks. It has now been almost 4 months since the initial abdominoplasty and my incision is extremely painful, swollen and red. What happens next? Is it from the surgery?

Next, you need to contact your plastic surgeon for an examination. I cannot tell what is going on just from photos. Certainly  with your history, suspicion for an infection would be high. Other potential causes include a delayed reaction to tape or oils/creams used for scar therapy. You must be examined for an appropriate diagnosis.

Although this type of appearance would not be typical at this point after surgery, it sounds like you have had a significant amount of complications from this procedure. The pictures are concerning for ongoing problems with infection or inflammation and I would advise you to call and be seen by your plastic surgeon as soon as possible.Best of luck!

While delayed (16 week) infection following abdominoplasty is uncommon, you have had multiple postoperative complications that put you at higher risk for ongoing issues following surgery. It is difficult to say without examining you in person but your description makes me concerned you may have an infection. I would contact your doctor tomorrow and try to be seen right away.
