Is it normal to get NEW bruising 2-3 weeks post breast augmentation?

I have noticed new bruising 2 weeks post breast augmentation ( underneath the muscle), and going into my 3rd week post surgery and noticed NEW bruising on my right breast... Is that normal???

Hi and thanks for the question. Bruising happens as a result of a bleed. All breast augmentation patients will bleed during the procedure, some  more, some less. The bruising that you are seeing is more than likely from a bleed that occurred at or immediately after your surgery and not that you are actively bleeding.It sometimes takes weeks for the actual bruise to rise to the surface of the skin so as to be noticeable by the patient. However, if the bruising is accompanied by a sudden rise in the size of your breast, then you have to be concerned about an active bleed. This does not seem to be the case with you.We treat with ice compresses twice per day. There are patients who swear by Arnica cream. Good luck

While it might not be so serious, you should have it checked out just in case. You may have damaged something and this bruising is indication of that.

To to three weeks is a bit late for bruising but certainly not out of the question. Still it is a good idea to show this to your own surgeon.

It is not usual for this to occur, but it does happen rarely. It is usually from an increase in activity causing a bleed.  You need to contact your surgeon and let them know what you are experiencing so that they can determine if it is something that requires treatment or it will resolve on its own.

it is not the usual course to develop late bruising. But it is understandabel. You probably just tore an area of fresh healing. It probably won't result in any long term issue but you should check in with your surgeon. good luck.

New bruising is pretty rare, so check with your plastic surgeon to make sure everything is okay.  You might have shifted a little so a small amount of scar tissue tore.

It may very well be normal. As you increase your activity post operatively,you are moving your pectoralis muscles, especially on your dominant side. I would not worry especially if the new bruising is on your dominant side.

Late bruising is not unheard of, but it is important to rule out a hematoma. Typically a hematoma is associated with an increase in pain and swelling of the affected breast. New bruising without these symptoms is typically not significant. A follow up with your plastic surgeon is recommended.

While definitiely not "normal", it is not necessarily something that will need treatment. If the breast shape, size, position, discomfort and softness are all unchanged -- it is unlikely that it will be an issue. Check with your surgeon to be certain.
