Hi, I had a cortisone shot in my leg to "flatten and lighten" small scar. 2mos after it developed deep dent and lost color. Fat tissue around continues to dissolve in long lines Over blood vessels. The skin became paper thin. Gets bruises and ruptured capillaries as I try to massage it. I now try electro massage. 9 months post procedure

Hi- thanks for your question. Once the tissues in the area stabilize, you may be able to have some fat grafting done to restore the contour of the area. There is even some early data showing that fat grafting can sometimes improve the quality of the overlying skin. This opinion is based on your photos; I would recommend you see a reputable plastic surgeon for an in-person evaluation.

Sorry to hear about your leg.  You have a very unusual reaction but the scar just looks "odd" and the bleeding/capillaries needs to be evaluated.  I suggest you see a dermatologist for a possible skin biopsy of that area.  If everything is OK, your best options would be laser resurfacing + Dermal fillers.  Hope this helps. Best, Dr. Avaliani

Cortisone shots can be helpful if you develop hypertrophic scars or keloids after an injury such as a burn. However, these meds are not without risks. If injected too deeply into the fat under the skin or into the surrounding "normal" skin, steroids can cause fat cells to die leading to indented scars. Normal scar healing recruits blood flow to the injured area but thinning of the skin from a combination of the burn and steroid injection can make discoloration more apparent as the skin becomes very thin and delicate. For the red discoloration and small blood vessels, a laser treatment such as the V beam can target those areas and as a side benefit, tightens the skin. Microneedling with PRP is another option to improve the skin texture and build its strength by stimulating collagen remodeling of the strength layer of your skin and bringing in growth factors. For the indentation, once the discoloration is treated you may not notice this as much, but if it still troubles you the volume can be restored either by filler (temporary) or fat injections (from your own body). May sure you find a qualified plastic surgeon who understands the multi-facets of burn injury and cortisone effects and is able to counsel you through your options and recovery!
