Should I be able to feel my chin implant?

Hi there! I'm over a year post op with a Large chin implant with wings. I've noticed that I am always aware of the implant. I can feel tightness around my jaw and it's much more difficult to speak/annunciate. Is this because the chin implant is too big? Or is this the typical feeling of having an implant in your mouth? I'm trying to decide whether I should have my PS shave it down or take it out. Thanks for the help!

Dear indiratempost. The simple answer is "no" a chin implant should not change your speech or feel uncomfortable and typically after the first month patients do not even know it is in. I would suggest speaking with your surgeon and voicing your concerns. Perhaps a different style and size would be better for you. Best regards, Michael V. Elam, M.D.

A chin implant does fill the space and if it is larger may feel tight, cause numbness, especially directly after the surgery. This may "settle" with time.
