Thanks for the question. After 4-6 weeks your operation area is totally healed and yes you can do gym and also do other sport activities. I wish you all the best.
You can start light cardio (treadmill at a slow pace) at a week or so, which is good for your head and keeps your circulation going! Typically, after a breast reduction, patients can return to strenuous activity after around 6 weeks. However, your incisions must be healed before you begin training at the gym again. Too much activity will cause swelling to occur and delay your recovery.
Hi. Thanks for posting your question regarding exercise after breast surgery. If you have uneventful healing after surgery, my general recommendation for strenuous activities (such as the ones you have listed) is around 6 weeks. You should however still wear a supportive bra when exercising. All the very best in your recovery.Dr Ray Goh
As a bodybuilder, I understand the need to return to the gym. However, your incisions must be healed before doing any strenuous activity. I would recommend walking as soon as your plastic surgeon says it is OK until such time as you are cleared for strenuous activity. I recommend that my patients wait six weeks before performing strenuous exercise.Kenneth Hughes, MD, Board Certified Plastic Surgeon Los Angeles, CA
This is something you need to discuss with your surgeon who knows you best. For my patients I want them to wait 6 weeks before starting any strenuous exercise, or swelling may occur. Good luck.
Hello and thank you for your question. I appreciate that you are anxious to get back into your workout routine, particularly since your breast reduction is likely to make your weight lifting more comfortable in a variety of ways. However, to ensure the best results from your procedure, you need to allow ample time for the healing of the tissue and the incisions. This will reduce your risk of complications and produce the most inconspicuous scarring after surgery. Most doctors will allow you to begin a light walking regimen after about one week, which will encourage health circulation to benefit the healing process. Strenuous exercise like weight lifting can typically be resumed around six weeks after your procedure. It is always best to wear a high-quality sports bra when working out for an extended period to provide breasts the protection and support they need. For best results, follow your surgeon’s instructions on aftercare and recovery time. Best wishes on your recovery process and your positive results!- Edmund Ek, MBBS
I like many other plastic surgeons advise waiting 6 weeks post surgery before using heavy weights at the gym. Best wishes.
I usually allow my patients to return to all gym activity at 6 weeks, depending on their comfort.
Thank you for the question and congratulations on your decision to proceed with (or having undergone the) breast reduction surgery; it is one of the most patient pleasing operations we perform. Generally, it is best to follow your surgeon's guidelines in regards to return to activity/ exercise. Most of my patients are able to return to vigorous activity about 4 to 6 weeks after the breast reduction surgery. My best advice: start slow and listen to your body as you gradually return to full activity. Best wishes for an outcome that you will be very pleased with.
You should ask your specific surgeon for this answer, but I allow weights at 6 weeks post-op. Aerobic exercise at 4 weeks.

With a lollipop technique ( no transverse scar) also called a vertical mammoplasty, I allow my patients to use a underwire bra after the first week if they want. It can help to shape the breast if there is a lot of swelling postop. The "size" of the new breast is most dependent on the im...
