Unsatisfactory results from chin liposuction w/skin tightening - advice? (photos)

I am a 57 YO female and had chin lipo w/skin tightening in January 2022. As you can see, the results are less than satisfactory. I was told I am a “slow healer” and the end result would take more time. It’s now July and I look worse than I did before the procedure. The PS who did the procedure has injected Botox and steroids in my neck area but I don’t think it’s going to get any better, based on what I’ve seen and read on here. Any advice/guidance is appreciated! TIA.

Hello. Unfortunately, the image you obtained is due to the improper planning of your surgery. Not because of your slow recovery. Liposuction causes this appearance in necks that are very heavy, fatty and have excess skin. The skin sags, platysma bands appear. For this reason, you should have had a neck lift from the first surgery. However, it can still be saved. You are now the best candidate for neck lift surgery. It's a little tough to tell what's going on from your pictures, but a few thoughts. You have platysmal banding, which looks like it was uncovered by the chin liposuction. You have some skin irregularities either from skin laxity, or from irregularities from liposuction, or both. It looks like you still have a decent amount of skin laxity, as well. Botox for the bands may be a temporary improvement, but the best fix is most likely a facelift and/or necklift to fix the skin excess and platysmal banding.

Getting quality liposuction results requires having good skin.
It’s also important to understand what the primary ideology or problem is when choosing a procedure.
At age 57 the majority of elasticity you had as a young person is gone and your skin no longer stretches like a rubber band but it behaves more like a string or sheet of cloth.
When the fat is removed the underlying platysma muscle gets uncovered and the platysmal bands that were previously partially covered by the fat layer become exposed.
My maximum cut off for neck Liposuction is usually age 50 and even then I warn the people that their results are going to be subtle and I’m not aggressive with my treatment.
Liposuction is permanent in a reversible.
Probably your best option is to convert this to a facelift/neck lift which maybe should’ve been the procedure of choice in the first place.
We can’t really give you a quality assessment based on pictures alone. Follow up with your provider. This has nothing to do with waiting or you being different. Liposuction results are highly predictable in the hands of experienced providers.
Providers were surprised the things didn’t turn out simply lack experience. It’s so much important that your provider learns from this and doesn’t keep doing aggressive Liposuction and older people.
The ideal candidate for liposuction is in my words often described as “Young tight and pudgy”
To get a proper second opinion consultation scheduled those as in person consultations for the other local board-certified plastic surgeons. For a second opinion consultations patients should come prepared and bring formal before and after pictures and a copy of your operative report. If you don’t have proper before and after pictures you should ask your surgeon to forward the ones they took. Botox can be used to treat platysmal bands but hardly seems like a long-term solution. Steroid injections seem questionable but some surgeons have a hard time owning their outcomes.
Delivering consistent quality Liposuction results it’s much more difficult than most people believe in this includes plastic surgeons.
I don’t believe in any skin tightening procedure other than formal excision of skin laxity with a proper skin removal procedures like a facelift, tummy tuck, breast lift etc.
